How-To: Mounting a Rover Haven Bund Strap to Your Watch.
Myron Erickson
Bund straps have become increasingly popular.
They offer insulation from the elements or your environment, a cool look, and if made right can be quite comfortable. But they can be a bit confusing to mount, so the other day I took a few pictures of a strap I had just made for the Rover Haven Pre-Made Straps web shop to illustrate the process. Ready? Here goes.
Step 1. Your Rover Haven Bund strap will come in the package with the buckle piece already inserted in the Bund pad’s keeper slot.
Step 2. Now you have to decide if you want to use the floating keeper. If you think you need it, remove the buckle piece from the Bund pad by pulling it through from the buckle end. The lug end will be snug as it passes through the pad’s keeper slot, but will come out with a gentle, smooth pull.
If you don’t want to use the floating keeper, skip ahead to step 3.
To continue adding the floating keeper: With the buckle piece out, fit the floating keeper over its lug end. Now gently re-insert the lug end back into the Bund pad’s keeper slot. Again, it’ll be snug, so go slow, be patient, and work gently until you have it.
Step 3. Now insert the tailpiece into the Bund pad’s keeper slot, working from the center of the pad and gently pulling the tailpiece out the end.
Step 4. Now mount your watch to the strap as you would normally. I usually start at the 12 o’clock side, but for no particular reason. It can be helpful to pull the strap pieces in toward the center of the Bund pad to give you a little more room to work, and you may even want to remove the tailpiece, since it’s easy to reinstall.
Step 5. If you removed the tailpiece, reinsert it into the Bund pad’s keeper slot now. Mount the 6 o’clock end of your watch to the tailpiece of the strap as you would normally.
Step 6. Now adjust the watch so the crown is centered on the pad, put your watch on, and go find some Bund-worthy adventure.
I hope you found this useful. If you have a favorite technique or tip for mounting a watch onto a Bund strap, please share them in the comments below, and thank you for reading!
